seafood + fisheries

Fishing and shellfishing have always been integral to our culture and cuisine, and Boston remains a major commercial fishing port for cod and haddock; Recreational fishing for bluefish and striped bass thrives up and down our coast. On the North Shore, generation after generation hauls in lobster traps, continuing a centuries-long tradition. But the Massachusetts seafood industry is constantly adapting to changing conditions and regulations, warming waters and overfishing–finding markets for underutilized fish and invasive crabs, farming mussels offshore and oysters in warmer waters.
