Behind every recipe, there’s a story. Personal stories, family stories, stories about culture and community and history and land. Context feeds our curiosity. What do chefs cook for their kids at home? Knowing what’s behind a given recipe – the how and the why – enriches the experience of cooking and eating, and of dining out. We can learn a lot about Boston history through its foods – from Ipswich fried clams to hamantaschen. How does Boston’s Chinatown survive as the surrounding neighborhoods change? Knowing why our local foods are important as well as delicious makes them all the more precious.
