Food and Wine of Northern Spain with Edible Boston

FEBRUARY 19th to MARCH 1st, 2024

Join Sarah and Chris and our Go Ahead friends as we travel from Barcelona to Basque country!

Our first three days will be spent in the city of Barcelona sampling cava, tapas and churros. We’ll do a private cooking class and wander the markets to sample all the culinary specialties of the Catalan capital, soaking up the architecture, culture and delectable food.

We’ll then journey by train to Rioja for a two-day stint of wine tastings and tapas bars, visiting vineyards, villages and caves, enjoying a 3-course dinner at a Michelin star restaurant and taking in modernist architecture set amid the rolling countryside.

Next, it’s on to the cideries in Asturias. Did you know that this region produces some of the world’s most exceptional hard ciders, and since they don’t export much of it, Asturias is the best—and only—place to taste them? We’ll get a free day in Oveido—perhaps we’ll hike in the mountains, or stroll through the pristine city, maybe lounge at the hotel or choose our own adventure; the choices are endless—before heading east again towards the Basque region.

San Sebastian will be our home base for the next (and last) three nights of the tour—we’ll have another cooking class, explore the city and its famous fish and vegetable markets, pop into the countryside to a sheep farm where we’ll learn about Idiabazal cheese, taste Txakoli on the vineyard where it’s made and enjoy a seaside seafood lunch in Getaria. Flights home will depart from Bilbao on Day 12.

FOR GROUP TOUR SKEPTICS: We were like you, once upon a time. But then we experienced a Go Ahead tour and were completely convinced. The hotels are elegant 4- and 5-star properties; the regional tour guides are experts in local food and wine; the Tour Director is a master of the areas we visit; the coach is comfortable and safe and smooth; but most importantly, the peace of mind that comes from having Go Ahead’s 50 years of experience and their extensive on-the-ground network means these tours are at once relaxing and energizing, intellectual and experiential—not to mention full of the best food and drink each region has to offer.
