For sure, the best Father’s Day gift for the dads around Boston would be Celtics in 4, tomorrow night… (What a year! What a team! What a ride!) …But you’ll still need to pamper him with a nice meal on Sunday. Father’s Day coincides with Chris’ birthday in our family, so we try to go big and merge the two celebrations into one very Dad-centric weekend. Menu planning begins sometime early in the month, and we go back and forth—will it be steak or fish for the main? The halibut’s been looking good, but who doesn’t love a good Porterhouse on the grill? Shrimp cocktail? Stuffies? His favorite, though, is the quintessential New England fancy food: Lobster. Some years we make sandwiches for the beach, using Jasper White’s foolproof recipe for lobster salad and homemade mayo. Or, better yet, hot buttered lobster on Andrew Janjigian’s homemade potato rolls served in the back yard. But if we have some extra time, we’ll split the lobsters live and douse them in a sweet-tangy marinade and grill them in this riff on an Epicurious recipe from ages ago, and serve them alongside corn on the cob (not native quite yet, but who cares when the weather’s this nice and summer is right around the corner. Double the recipe for a family meal.) Whatever you’re planning, it’ll surely be appreciated. And any of the local events below would make excellent “experiences, not things” gifts for Dad.
